About Elise

I played traditional, team, competitive sports my whole life. I enjoyed the challenge and the camaraderie. However, after college, when the competition stopped, I found myself behind a desk most of my day, rapidly gaining weight. I felt sluggish and uncomfortable in my own body. In January of 2013 I made the decision that I didn’t want to live that way. I vowed to get healthy, get active and make positive changes in my life. I started to eat better and I started walking. That was all I could manage at the time. Slowly but surely, the pounds began to melt off. I started increasing the intensity and frequency of my workouts; I had goals. I had not yet admitted that I was burning myself out. My weight loss plateaued and I struggled, losing interest in the gym.

In 2013, in the midst of my search, I stumbled upon a Groupon for Dana Hot Yoga. I thought it might be a Handstandnice ‘breather’ and that more yoga and ‘stretching’ would keep me active and compliment my vigorous workout regimen. What I found was an intense physical challenge.  The addition of the heat made me sweat from pores I didn’t know I had! As I returned more and more frequently for the physical intensity, I found an unexpected sanctuary rooted in this ancient practice. The perfect blend of vigorous rhythm and repetition and gentle movements that nurture the body. Yoga provided space for the personal reflection and self-study that I so badly needed. Somehow, the weight loss and fitness were no longer my focus, but rather one piece of the whole me. I knew I needed to share this passion with whoever would listen.

As a graduate of the 2014 Dana Hot Yoga 200-hr Teacher Training program, I believe in a fiery, Yang, Vinyasa practice. As a teacher, I aim to help you push yourself past your own limits, while respecting the anatomical uniqueness of your body. Inviting deeper inquiry into silence, anatomy and the physical and energetic benefits of a Yin practice, I completed a Yin Yoga Training at Wake Up Yoga in January 2016. In yoga and live, I continue to strive for the delicate balance of Yin & Yang.

I would be honored to share my journey with you. Hope to see you on the mat. Namaste!
